Hello, I’m Doug Mayer (the one on the left). I am currently a graduate student in the Environmental Resources Engineering department at SUNY-ESF in Syracuse, New York pursuing a Master of Science degree in Ecological Engineering. My baccalaureate degree is also from SUNY-ESF in Forest Engineering, 2008.
My research concerns passive techniques for solid-liquid separation of dairy manure. The goal is to provide a filtrate with low total solids concentration for further processing into crystalline fertilizer and mid-moisture solids that can be composted for animal bedding. This research is ongoing and data is currently being collected.
From 2008 to 2011, I was an environmental engineer in the Construction and Environmental Services division of a large environmental consulting firm in East Syracuse, New York. It was here that I learned the value of good communication in an engineering setting. We as engineers must be able to listen to stakeholders to understand concerns and constraints and also be able to communicate our intentions and designs effectively.
In my free time, I enjoy cycling, photography, planning new adventures, and exploring the rich culture of Syracuse.
